A Month Since Failure

I wanted to celebrate an anniversary of sorts. Today, at 7 AM, it has been one month since I last looked at pornography. God has been kind. Sam has been forgiving and sweet. You have been a wonderful audience. Thank you.

There is one lesson i have learned through this experience that I believe is worth sharing. It is not fun to sit down and type about my own failings so frequently, but it is a really healthy reminder for me. This blog has been extremely helpful in keeping my focus on the gospel and encouraging me to be the change I want to see in the world and the church.

Dear brother who is struggling with porn, I encourage confession. It’s almost like God knew what he was talking about when he encouraged us to confess our sins to each other. It certainly doesn’t have to be blogging about it six days a week, but you should be regularly confessing your sins to each other. There is grace in it. In fact, there is joy in it.

I want to talk for a moment with you who have not confessed in a long time. I think that you have forgotten what it was like to be free of that weight on your shoulders. You don’t feel it now, but it expresses itself as a cynicism, a grouchiness. It is partly that sense of hopelessness that anything will ever change. You know what lifts it, confession. Certainly confess to God and then confess to another believer. There really is joy in it.

To all of you who follow the blog, thank you. You have helped me more than you know.
